Today, the editorial staff of the upcoming book The Home and Art of Carl Milles – Ett konstnärshem visited Herman Bergman’s art foundry in Enskede.
Bergman’s is one of the few Swedish foundries that cast Millesgården’s sculptures. When Carl Milles and his wife, Olga, decided to donate Millesgården to the Swedish people in 1936 for the purpose of creating a museum, the right to cast new sculptures in order to secure Millesgården’s survival was also transferred. As long as Carl Milles was alive, no sculptures were numbered – yet after his passing, the foundation decided to cast numbered sculptures in editions of six or twelve copies.
Today, we were taking photographs for the book of the making of a new copy of Serpentindanserskan (1901).
Idag var redaktionen för den kommande boken The Home and Art of Carl Milles – Ett konstnärshem, på besök hos Herman Bergmans Konstgjuteri i Enskede.
Bergmans är ett av de få svenska konstgjuterier som gjuter Millesgårdens skulpturer. När Carl Milles och hans fru Olga 1936 beslöt sig för att skänka Millesgården till det svenska folket för att skapa ett museum överfördes också rätten att gjuta nya skulpturer för att säkerställa Millesgårdens fortlevnad. Under Carl Milles levnad numrerades inga skulpturer, men efter konstnärens död beslöt stiftelsen att låta gjuta numrerade skulpturer i upplagor om sex eller tolv exemplar.
Idag fick vi vara med och till boken fotografera när ett nytt exemplar av Serpentindanserskan (1901) skulle gjutas.
