Drawing Treks

This is a book about the joy of experiencing outdoor settings and environments through drawing. The authors’ intention in writing this book has been to inspire you to draw and share methods for visually communicating impressions from the places you visit through line drawings. We live in a time when digital tools for creating graphic depictions have long since made an entrance and artificial intelligence as a part of this development offers untold opportunities for visual communication. At the same time, the intimate authenticity found in using pens and pencils to tell visual stories is experiencing a renaissance. The drawings in the book stem from the many drawing treks that the two authors, a father and son, have taken together over the years, since the early 1970s and up to the present day. Due to their mutual architectural backgrounds, a fascination with the interaction between buildings and landscapes is a recurring theme in most of the drawings. The motifs presented in the book are primarily from Norway, but also from the other Nordic countries. The book is intended to serve as both a practical instruction book and a source of inspiration. Whether drawing is your hobby, you are a student of art, design, graphic design, architecture or landscape architecture, or simply have a general interest in the subject, here you will find methods and tips that will give you both the tools and the desire to explore outdoor settings with a sketchbook in hand.
