Philippe Sarfati is an architect and photographer, who was awarded Architectural Photographer of the Year in 2023 by Archititzer. His solo exhibition Territories is open until November 26 at Atelier Neerlandais, Rue de Lille in Paris.
The exhibition is organised around his recent book Territories, published by A+O Publishing. The impulse behind this experimental photo project was to inject methodology from street photography – mostly, the reliance on serendipity and spontaneous behaviour – into architectural photography. Inspired by Ila Bêka and Louise Lemoine’s films, Sarfati wanted to show buildings through the eyes of their users, by presenting spaces as inhabited territories. Acclaimed works of architecture thus become dramatic backdrops to everyday scenes, their radical geometries framing simple acts.
Welcome to a talk bringing architects and photographers together in conversation, on November 23 at 6.30 pm. The talk is about the current state, and the potential futures, of architectural photography.

Jan Knikker is partner and Director of Strategy at MVRDV. He previously worked at OMA for nearly a decade, after having begun his career as a journalist.
Clément Blanchet is a French architect, teacher and critic, who is active internationally in the fields of architectural theory, urbanism, and cultural investigations. In 2014, he founded his own Paris firm, Clément Blanchet Architecture, after having been an associate and director of OMA France.
Cédric Roux is a street photographer known for his 2022-book My Wonderland, which documents the streets of Manhattan. His images incorporate a heavy emphasis on light, and are quiet, humorous, sensitive and alert.
Eléonore Simon is a Paris based street photographer who is part of the UP Photographers collective. She regularly holds workshops on street photography, and has judged multiple international street photography festivals. During her time living in Chile, she produced the work Valparaíso. Her work ‘plays on the harmony between light, shadow, and form to highlight the poetic and touching nature of ordinary moments’.
