Contemporary Sami Art and Design is a survey of the most innovative contemporary artists and designers working today in the region Sápmi, an area spanning northern Norway, Sweden, Finland and northwestern Russia.
Sami visual artists engage all media and pursue a broad variety of artistic strategies, while Sami designers equally range from mediating and fine-tuning Sami craft and duodji tradition to the exploration of new forms, idioms and materials.
Initiated by Vanessa Sahlman and written by esteemed Sami historian Jan-Erik Lundström, the book is richly illustrated with original works by 35 leading artists. Contemporary Sami Art and Design is a reference book for anyone with an interest in expressions of contemporary art and design from the Sami region.
